'Jersey Shore': Jersey tax dollars pack new punch to MTV

Cast-Jersey-Shore-MTV-Beach-400.jpgRecently, New Jersey legislators packed their own "Jersey Shore" punch to MTV. Yep, they wrote a letter. That must sting.

In the past week, legislators seem to be hitting guidos where they live. Earlier this week, the U.S. Senate included a 10% tax on indoor tanning in their health care bill. Obviously, the orange-skinned residents of Jersey Shore went into a panic. And, now, New Jersey lawmakers are hitting the show's cast where it really hurts: They're trying to end their 15 minutes of fame.

The latest blow comes from the New Jersey Italian American Legislative Caucus, who sent a letter to Viacom, MTV's parent company, asking it to cancel the show. The lawmakers say the show promotes derogatory ethnic stereotypes and is "wildly offensive." They've also asked companies not to advertise during the show. Dell was the latest to pull their promos from the show. Makes sense: Dell's a PC.

MTV has yet to respond. When they do, we hope their response includes: Um, this is a reality show. We didn't make up Snooki. No one could have made that up.

What do you think, Jersey? Do you want your tax dollars used to fight "Jersey Shore"?
